TEACHING
In my teaching I strive to create an environment that promotes open communication between student and teacher and allows for student autonomy, while still meeting benchmarks deemed necessary for the student’s skill level and goals. Each lesson is dedicated to that student’s individual needs and throughout I employ a variety of instructional styles including demonstration, asking questions, and using analogies or other examples to get my message across and spark interest within the student. I also aim to create a positive studio culture that promotes the sharing of ideas and peer to peer learning to build camaraderie between students that lasts beyond their time in my studio. Overall, I hope to ignite passion and drive within my students to have a love for music that they can share with others no matter what their professional goals may be. Through my own mentors I have learned to be a compassionate and understanding educator that supports each student through each stage of their development, not only as a bassoonist but also as a person.
Current and former students have been accepted to numerous local and state level ensembles including Texas 6A and New Mexico All-State bands and orchestras in addition to acceptance to prestigious collegiate music programs including Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College, Southern Methodist, UT-Austin, and University of Denver.
